Road to Mandalay: 14 nights from Rangoon to Mandalay

Day 1 - Yangon
International arrivals in Rangoon. Transfer to ship moored in the heart of colonial 'Downtown' Yangon. Afternoon sight seeing and visit to the spectacular Shwedagon Pagoda for sunset.
Day 2 - Irrawaddy Delta
Sail with the first tide up the Rangoon River and enter the Twante Canal, which connects the Yangon River with the Irrawaddy Delta. We stop on route at the Twante village to visit the potteries there, famed for their enormous water pots. Arrive Yandoon for evening walk in this delightful Delta town.
Day 3 - Danupyu
Continue our exploration of Delta creeks and stop at Donabyu, another little known town with a busy port and bustling markets. In the First Anglo Burmese War of 1825 the Burmese general Maha-Bandoola was defeated here following a long and near disastrous campaign by the British. Moor overnight off Henzada.
Day 4 - Manaugn and Tonbo
Sailing all day we stop to visit the markets and see old colonial buildings in the sleepy Delta town of Manaung and now enter the Irrawaddy River itself. We continue to moor for the night at Tonbo.
Day 5 - Prome
Stop at the famous A Kauk Taung to explore the spectacular stone carving on the cliff. We reach Prome by early afternoon and travel by coach to the 5th-8th century archaeological site of Thiri-ya-kittiya, former centre of the Pyu civilization with a fascinating museum of early Buddhist artifacts and sculpture.
Day 6 - Thayetmyo Frontier Post
This pleasant colonial town once guarded the border between Royal Myanmar and British Myanmar following the 2nd Anglo Myanma War of 1855. Many of the buildings including the covered market date from this period. Thayet also boasts the oldest golf course in Myanmar (1885). We visit the market, see the colonial houses and ride out by horse cart to the golf course, passing trough the former British botanical garden.
Day 7 - Minhla Forts
Minhla and Gwechaung - We visit the two Italian built forts constructed to keep the British at bay from Royal Myanmar. We climb the Gwechaung hill for the view. These were captured by the British in the 3rd Anglo Myanma War. The fight for the Minhla redoubt was the only serious action in the war and the death of a young subaltern inspired Kipling to write a poem.
Day 8 - Magwe Gold Bricks
We ride Trishaws to reach the magnificent Myat-thalon Pagoda, constructed with solid gold bricks. Of interest are the many nat shrines and hermitages within the temple precincts.
Day 9 - Sale
Here we visit the Yout-saun-kyaung monastery with its spectacular wood carvings; we also explore an area of splendid colonial-style houses. Moor at the Tan-chi-taung mountain and ascend by WWII jeep for the spectacular sunset over Pagan.
Day 10 - Pagan
We tour a selection of the 3,000 listed monuments.
Day 11 - Pagan - Theingone Monastery
Further explorations of Pagan. We cast off at lunchtime and proceed to the Theingone village to make a tour of construction of both the new school and the monastery.
Day 12 - Yandabo
This small rural village specialises in pot making. We visit the Pandaw School and the new dispensary both built with past donations from Pandaw passengers.
Day 13 - Ava and Amarapura Old Capitals
We explore these ancient capitals visiting the teak Bagaya Kyaung, Menu Ok-kyaung. We cross the famous U Bein Bridge to see the paintings in a temple and come back in sampan.
Day 14 - Sagaing Hills and Mandalay
The true delight of Sagaing lies in its 1.000 hermitages and sanctuaries, rich in woodcarving and religious art. In the afternoon we tour central Mandalay visiting the Mahamuni Pagoda and Shwe-im-bin teak carved monastery. We see tapestry making and other traditional crafts.
Day 15 - Mandalay to Rangoon
Disembark Pandaw II and fly to Yangon. Transfer to the Yangon Chatrium Hotel. Afternoon trip to Scots Market.

Jour 1 - Yangon

Jour 2 - Delta d'Irrawaddy
Voile avec la première marée de la rivière Rangoon et entrez le Twante Canal, qui relie le fleuve Yangon avec le Delta d'Irrawaddy. Nous nous arrêtons sur la route à la Twante visiter le village de poteries là, célèbre pour ses énormes pots d'eau. Arrive Yandoon soir pour marcher dans cette jolie ville de Delta.
Jour 3 - Danupyu
Poursuivre notre exploration des criques Delta et descendre à l'arrêt Donabyu, un autre peu connu la ville avec un port très actif et des marchés animés. Au cours de la Première Guerre anglo birmanes de 1825 les généraux birmans Maha-Bandoola a été défait ici après une longue et désastreuse campagne près par les Britanniques. Moor nuit hors Henzada.
Jour 4 - Manaugn et Tonbo
Voile toute la journée, nous nous arrêtons pour visiter les marchés et de voir de vieux bâtiments coloniaux dans la ville de Delta sleepy Manaung et maintenant entrer dans le fleuve Irrawaddy lui-même. Nous continuons à s'amarrer pour la nuit à Tonbo.
Jour 5 - Prome
Stop à la fameuse A Kauk Taung pour explorer la spectaculaire sculpture sur pierre sur la falaise. Nous atteignons ici le début de l'après-midi Prome et Voyage en autocar à la 5e et 8e siècle, site archéologique de Thiri-ya-kittiya, ancien centre de la civilisation Pyu avec un fascinant musée de début et de la sculpture bouddhique artefacts.
Jour 6 - Thayetmyo Frontier Post
Cette charmante petite ville coloniale, une fois surveillé la frontière entre le Myanmar et la Royal British Myanmar suite à la 2e guerre anglo Myanma de 1855. Beaucoup de bâtiments, y compris le marché couvert de la date de cette période. Thayet aussi le plus ancien terrain de golf au Myanmar (1885). Nous visitons le marché, voir les maisons coloniales et de sortir par le cheval de panier du terrain de golf, en passant à travers l'ancien jardin botanique britannique.
Jour 7 - Minhla Forts
Minhla et Gwechaung - Nous visitons les deux italien construit forts pour préserver les Britanniques à la baie de Royal Myanmar. Nous montons la colline Gwechaung de la vue. Ils ont été capturés par les Britanniques dans la 3ème guerre anglo Myanma. La lutte pour la redoute Minhla grave a été la seule action dans la guerre et la mort d'un jeune subalterne Kipling inspiré pour écrire un poème.
Jour 8 - Gold Bricks Magwe
Nous Trishaws trajet pour atteindre le magnifique thalon Myat-Pagoda, construite avec des briques en or massif. D'intérêt sont les nombreux sanctuaires et ermitages nat dans l'enceinte du temple.
Jour 9 - Vente
Ici, nous visitons la jeunesse-saun-kyaung monastère avec ses spectaculaires sculptures sur bois, nous avons également d'explorer un espace de splendides maisons de style colonial. Moor à la Tan-chi-Taung montagne et l'ascension de la Seconde Guerre mondiale jeep pour le spectaculaire coucher de soleil sur Pagan.
Jour 10 - Pagan
Nous tour une sélection des 3000 monuments classés.
Jour 11 - Pagan - Theingone monastère
D'autres explorations de Pagan. Nous avons largué les amarres à l'heure du dîner et de passer à la Theingone village pour faire le tour de la construction de la nouvelle école et le monastère.
Jour 12 - Yandabo
Ce petit village spécialisé dans la fabrication du pot. Nous visitons la Pandaw école et le dispensaire construit avec les deux dernières Pandaw dons de passagers.
Jour 13 - Ava et Amarapura Vieille Capitale
Nous explorons ces anciennes capitales de la visite de teck Bagaya Kyaung, Menu Ok-kyaung. Nous traversons le fameux pont U Bein pour voir les peintures dans un temple et de revenir en sampan.
Jour 14 - Mandalay et de Sagaing Hills
Le vrai plaisir de Sagaing réside dans ses 1.000 ermitages et des sanctuaires, riche en sculpture sur bois et l'art religieux. Dans l'après-midi nous avons visité tour centrale de Mandalay et la pagode Shwe Mahamuni-im-bin teck sculpté monastère. Nous voyons la tapisserie et de fabrication de l'artisanat traditionnel.
Jour 15 - à Rangoon, Mandalay
Descendez Pandaw II et voler à Yangon. Transfert à l'Hôtel Chatrium Yangon. Après-midi visite à Scots marché.
